Becoming Dr. You is the practical, rigorous, and deeply human guide every aspiring or current doctoral student needs. Drawing from honest reflections of her doctoral journey written in journal entries, real experiences, and over fourteen years of academic and professional expertise, Dr. Noelle Chuks-Eboka demystifies the PhD journey and provides the clarity she wished she had at 23.

Dr. Noelle blends her lived experiences with actionable strategies, walking readers through the full arc of the doctoral process and beyond. The book covers topics from understanding what a PhD really is to choosing a program, confronting imposter syndrome, mastering research habits, navigating setbacks, finding your academic voice, preparing for thesis defense, and exploring the career options available after a PhD.

Whether you are applying, just starting out, already deep into research, or about to complete your PhD, this book will equip you with the practical tools, mindset shifts, and emotional support to help you navigate your PhD journey.

Beyond guidance, this book was written for every student who has ever felt unseen, overwhelmed, or unprepared. It was written to name the emotional and mental realities of a PhD that academia rarely acknowledges, and to remind every scholar that they are not alone. It is a must-have for anyone pursuing or considering a PhD.
