With ELEMENTARY PARTS, the Sprengel Museum Hannover is celebrating both the 50th anniversary of the donation of Bernhard and Margrit Sprengel and the 40th year of the museum s existence. The exhibition as well as the catalog of the collection ELEMENTARY PARTS poses simple and obvious questions about art that nevertheless prove to be absolutely fundamental: What is art? What are works of art actually made of, which materials are used? Which formal languages do they employ? Which reality (or realities) do they refer to between the figurative, the abstract and the virtual? What is art about, what kind of narratives does it tell, and how does it reflect history? In ten thematic topics there is unfolded an impressive spectrum of the fundamental ways of expression. The topics are, amongst others, color, material, form/shape, ­realities, history/nar­ra­tives, natural and human ­shaped spaces, strong emotions and finally faces. This brings together a total of more than 150 works from Max Beckmann, Pablo ­Picasso, ­Fernand Le ger and Paul Klee via Louise Bourgeois, Sean Scully, Bruce Nauman, Niki de Saint Phalle and Gerhard Richter to Marlene Dumas, Andrea Fraser, Julian Charrie re, Julius von Bismarck, ­Christoph Girardet and Julia Schmid.

Le musée Sprengel de Hanovre célèbre avec PARTIES ÉLÉMENTAIRES le 50ème anniversaire de la donation de Bernhard et Margrit Sprengel, ainsi que les 40 ans du Musée. L exposition PARTIES ÉLÉMENTAIRES et son catalogue posent à l art des questions aussi simples qu évidentes, qui s avèrent néanmoins absolument fondamentales : qu est-ce que l art ? En quoi consistent les oeuvres d art, quels sont les matériaux utilisés ? Quels langages formels parlent-elles ? À quelle réalité ou à quelles réalités se réfèrent-elles, entre figuration, abstraction et mondes virtuels ? De quoi parle l art, quelles histoires raconte-t-il, comment reflète-t-il l histoire ? Le spectre impressionnant des possibilités d expression les plus fondamentales se déploie à travers dix axes thématiques judicieusement choisis, à savoir couleur, matière, forme/apparence, réalités, histoire(s), espaces naturels et vitaux, grands sentiments et enfin visages. Plus de 150 oeuvres sont présentées au total, de Max Beckmann, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Le ger et Paul Klee à Marlene Dumas, Andrea Fraser, Julian Charrie re, Julius von Bismarck, Christoph Girardet et Julia Schmid, en passant par Louise Bourgeois, Sean Scully, Bruce Nauman, Niki de Saint Phalle et Gerhard Richter.

Das Sprengel Museum Hannover feiert mit ­ELEMENTARTEILE das 50-jährige Jubiläum der Schenkung Bernhard und Margrit Sprengel sowie das 40-jährige Bestehen des Museums. Ausstellung und Sammlungskatalog ELEMENTARTEILE stellen ebenso einfache wie naheliegende Fragen an die Kunst, die sich gleichwohl als absolut grundlegend erweisen: Was ist Kunst? Woraus bestehen Kunstwerke eigentlich, welche Materialien kom- men zur Anwendung? Welche Formensprachen verwenden sie? Auf welche Wirklichkeit(en) be­ziehen sie sich zwischen Figuration, Abstraktion und virtuellen Welten? Wovon handelt Kunst, was für Geschichten erzahlt sie, wie spiegelt sie Geschichte? Das beein­druckende Spektrum grundsatzlicher Ausdrucksmoglich­keiten entfaltet sich im Lichte der klug gewählten zehn thema­tischen Schwerpunkte, darunter Farbe, Material, Form/Gestalt, Wirklichkeiten, Geschich­te(n), ­Natur- und Lebensraume, Große Gefühle und schließlich Gesichter. ­Insgesamt werden mehr als 150 Werke von Max Beckmann, Pablo ­Picasso, Fernand Le ger und Paul Klee über Louise Bourgeois, Sean Scully, Bruce Nauman, Niki de Saint Phalle und Gerhard Richter bis hin zu Marlene Dumas, Andrea Fraser, Julian Charrie re, Julius von Bismarck, Christoph ­Girardet und Julia Schmid präsentiert.
