Galaxy Science Fiction changed the shape of modern science fiction when it appeared in 1950 under editor H. L. Gold, quickly becoming one of the defining magazines of the field. Where Astounding was often associated with hard science and engineering-driven stories, Galaxy made room for sharper social speculation, satire, psychological fiction, anti-bureaucratic humor, and writers whose work did not always fit neatly into the dominant magazine formulas of the day. The result was one of the essential magazines of mid-century science fiction. The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction notes that Gold launched Galaxy in 1950 and made it "one of the leading sf magazines" from the outset.
In this first Galaxy Science Fiction Super Pack, Positronic Publishing brings you more than five hundred pages of classic science fiction from the magazine that helped carve its name onto the Mount Rushmore of the genre. These stories include alien contact, future medicine, satire, survival, strange technology, social prophecy, comic reversals, and the kind of idea-driven fiction that made Galaxy a home for some of the most distinctive voices in science fiction. Britannica also notes Galaxy's emphasis on satirical treatments of contemporary American life, one of the qualities that separated it from much of the field.
Stories include:
Doorstep by Keith Laumer
The Chasers by Daniel F. Galouye
Blueblood by Jim Harmon
Bad Memory by Patrick Fahy
Beach Scene by Marshall King
The Reluctant Heroes by Frank M. Robinson
Kreativity for Kats by Fritz Leiber
