Beethoven composed his Symphony in B flat major in 1806, a very productive year in which he wrote numerous other great works - such as the 4th Piano Concerto and the Violin Concerto. Today it is unjustly overshadowed by its famous neighbours, the "Eroica" and the 5th Symphony, although it was one of Beethoven's best-loved and most often performed works throughout the 19th century. With its preface by the editor Bathia Churgin, the edition is based on the musical text of the Beethoven Complete Edition and continues our series of study editions of Beethoven symphonies in a convenient format. / La Symphonie en Si bémol majeur fut composée par Beethoven en 1806, une des années les plus fécondes du compositeur, au cours de laquelle d'autres grandes oeuvres, comme le 4e Concerto pour piano ou le Concerto pour violon virent également le jour. Zusammenfassung
Ludwig van Beethoven verbrachte seine Jugend in Bonn und war dort Schüler von Chr.G. Neefe. 1792 siedelte er nach Wien über und war dort kurze Zeit Schüler von Haydn, später von Salieri. Ab 1800 begann Beethovens Gehörleiden, das schließlich zur völligen Taubheit führte. Er komponierte 9 Sinfonien, 5 Klavierkonzerte, 32 Klaviersonaten, Kammermusik u.a.
