T. E. Lawrence (1888-1935), known around the world as Lawrence of Arabia, was a British archaeologist, military officer, diplomat, and writer whose extraordinary life placed him at the center of one of the defining conflicts of the twentieth century. Born in Wales, Lawrence studied history at Oxford University and developed a deep knowledge of the Middle East through archaeological expeditions and years of travel in the region. During World War I, he became a key British liaison officer during the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire, where his knowledge of Arab culture, languages, and politics helped shape his role as a military strategist and advisor.Lawrence is best remembered for his acclaimed memoir Seven Pillars of Wisdom, a powerful account of his wartime experiences and one of the great works of twentieth-century military literature.
