Henri Barbusse (1873-1935) was a French novelist, journalist, and political activist best known for his powerful depictions of human experience in times of social upheaval. His novel Under Fire (1916), based on his experiences as a soldier in the First World War, won the Prix Goncourt and became one of the most important literary accounts of the conflict. Barbusse's writings often explored psychological depth, social injustice, and the realities of modern life.
