Instrumental virtuosity and the new impulses of baroque thought are to be found in the solo sonatas that came into being in Italy from the early decades of the 17th century. Both aspects have been taken into account when selecting pieces for this interesting collected edition of Italian violin music of the baroque era. The first volume concentrates on two groups: on the one hand on Corelli in Rome, Torelli in Bologna and Veracini in Florence; and on the other, on the three famous representatives of the last generation of Italian baroque composers - Geminiani, Tartini and Locatelli - whose sphere of influence extended from Padua via Amsterdam to England. All the works have been edited on the basis of the original sources, and therefore provide, in the tried and tested Urtext manner, a clear view of these baroque treasures. The preface gives explanatory notes on performance practice and basso continuo realization, and a list of variant readings rounds off this well-researched Urtext edition. / Les sonates en solo composées en Italie à partir des premières décennies du 17e siècle se distinguent par leur virtuosité instrumentale et l'originalité de la pensée baroque dont elles sont traversées. Ces deux aspects ont été pris en compte dans le choix des morceaux retenus pour cette série intéressante de recueils de musique italienne pour violon de la période baroque. Le premier volume se concentre sur deux groupes: d'une part Corelli à Rome, Torelli à Bologne et Veracini à Florence, et d'autre part les trois célèbres représentants de la dernière génération de compositeurs baroques italiens - Geminiani, Tartini et Locatelli -, dont le rayonnement s'étendait de Padoue jusqu'en Angleterre en passant par Amsterdam. Toutes les oeuvres ont été éditées sur la base des sources originales garantissant ainsi une vision claire de ces joyaux de l'art baroque dans une édition urtext qui a fait ses preuves. Dans la préface figurent des explications quant aux pratiques de jeu et à la réalisation de la basse continue.
