Die elementare Funktion bildlicher Repräsentation für das Denken und Handeln durchzieht das Gesamtwerk Schleiermachers. Sie wird in dieser Dissertation vor dem Hintergrund der Zusammengehörigkeit von Bild- und Fantasiekonzept [...] im Frühwerk etablierten Gleichstellung von Vernunft und Fantasie bzw. Rationalität und Kreativität korrespondiert die Gleichursprünglichkeit von Begriff und Bild als Formen kommunikativer Vergegenwärtigung der gemeinsamen Welt. Firchow rekonstruiert im ersten Hauptteil die werkgeschichtliche Etablierung der Fantasie als »individuelle Vernunft« im zeitgenössischen Kontext des Deutschen Idealismus. Der zweite Teil bietet eine systematische Darstellung der Grundfunktionen der gestaltbildenden Fantasie im Rahmen einer Platonischen »Bild-Anthropologie«, die sich als anschlussfähig für den gegenwärtigen »iconic turn« erweist. Die theologische Relevanz betrifft den Ursprung der Gottesidee und die Vergegenwärtigung des »Bildes des Erlösers« als Kernelement der Wesensbestimmung des Christentums.[The Free Play of Pictures.
