In her work, Trockel makes definitions, restrictions, paternalism, and violence due to gender visible and transparent. Working in a variety of media, Trockel directs her sociological gaze both at social regimes and political structures and at nature. While scientifically sound and precise, her observations always include her own critical and sometimes humorous gaze as a vital component as she not only captures but highlights ambivalences.
