Hannah Hurnard was a British Christian writer and missionary whose books combined devotional teaching, allegory, biblical reflection, and spiritual autobiography. Born in 1905, she became best known for Hinds' Feet on High Places, a Christian allegory first published in 1955 and later issued in many editions for readers drawn to stories of faith, surrender, healing, and spiritual ascent. The book's central figure, Much-Afraid, has remained one of the most recognisable characters in modern devotional fiction, embodying the believer's struggle with fear, weakness, longing, obedience, and trust in the Shepherd.Hurnard's writing often explores the movement from fear to love, from self-protection to surrender, and from woundedness toward spiritual maturity.
