Beschreibung
An allegory of the nine spices mentioned in Song of Solomon compared with the nine fruits of the Spirit.
A powerful allegory that personifies unhappy, tormenting attitudes of the mind, heart and temperament. Meet Mrs. Dismal Forebodings, Old Lord Fearing, Sir Arrogant, Umbrage, Resentment, Craven Fear and others. Contrast their lives with the lives of Grace and Glory, Mrs. Valiant, Mercy, Joy and Peace. Feel the tension as the tug of something better stirs unrest among the inhabitants of the Valley of Humiliation. Not all respond to the Shepherd's gentle touch, but those who do discover that "love turned outward is true life."

Über den Autor
Hannah Hurnard was a British Christian writer and missionary whose books combined devotional teaching, allegory, biblical reflection, and spiritual autobiography. Born in 1905, she became best known for Hinds' Feet on High Places, a Christian allegory first published in 1955 and later issued in many editions for readers drawn to stories of faith, surrender, healing, and spiritual ascent. The book's central figure, Much-Afraid, has remained one of the most recognisable characters in modern devotional fiction, embodying the believer's struggle with fear, weakness, longing, obedience, and trust in the Shepherd.Hurnard's writing often explores the movement from fear to love, from self-protection to surrender, and from woundedness toward spiritual maturity. Her work has appealed across generations because it presents Christian growth not as easy triumph but as a journey through difficulty, dependence, and transformation. Hinds' Feet on High Places remains her most influential book and continues to be read by Christians seeking inspirational fiction, devotional allegory, spiritual encouragement, and imaginative reflection on the life of faith.
